The Historyof University of Western Australia

The University of Western Australia (UWA) is a public research university with main campus in Perth, the state capital,a secondary campus in Albany, and various other facilities elsewhere.University of Western Australia (UWA) was established in 1911 by an act of the Parliament of Western Australia, and began teaching students two years later. It is the sixth-oldest university in Australia, and was Western Australia's only university until the establishment of Murdoch University in 1973. Because of its age and reputation, University of Western Australia (UWA) is classed one of the "sandstone universities", an informal designation given to the oldest university in each state. The university also belongs to several more formal groupings, including the Group of Eight and the Matariki Network of Universities.

Life in University of Western Australia

The University of Western Australia Student Guild is the premier student representative body on campus. It is affiliated with the National Union of Students. The vision of the UWA Student Guild is to be inclusive and representative of the student community and to provide relevant, high quality services to its members, whilst remaining environmentally and socially conscious.

When averaging the world's major rankings, UWA (136) appears to be ranked seventh in Australia, behind ANU (103), UNSW (64), Monash University (63), the University of Sydney (56), the University of Queensland (47), and the University of Melbourne (40). UWA is highly ranked according to the Melbourne Institute Index ranking of Australian universities. UWA has been ranked as having some of the highest quality undergraduates of any university in Australia and is ranked second in Australia for the quality of its undergraduate programs. The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) produced by Shanghai Jiao Tong University has consistently placed UWA as the joint best university in Australia (along with the University of Queensland) in the fields of clinical medicine and pharmacy.The ARWU has also ranked UWA as the best university in Australia for life and agricultural sciences, coming in at 25th position in the world as of 2015.

Undergraduate Admissions                                                                                                                                             

The university offers undergraduate degrees in varied disciplines like Bachelor of Science (BSc), Bachelor of Commerce (BCom), Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Biomedical Science (BBiomedSc). Bachelor of Philosophy is one of the most popular courses that allow an intake of only 30 students per year.

 Graduate Admissions       

The University offers graduate degrees in courses like engineering, computer science, biology, architecture, research, etc. The university does not offer some PG programs to international students such as Master of Clinical Audiology and Master of Pharmacy. The university usually takes 10 business days to process the application. If the applicant is successful in securing the admission an offer letter will be sent. This letter will contain the new student number, course details and how can an applicant respond to the offer. The University has a selective admission process. Applicants are advised to apply prior to the deadlines to ensure a better chance of selection. The university considers the applications with an overall approach.
