St. Paul University Iloilo (SPUI) is a private Catholic university. It is a member school of Saint Paul University System. Impelled by the love of Christ, and on the invitation and support of His Eminence Denis Cardinal Dougherty, Bishop of Jaro, The Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres began their apostolic activities in Iloilo by establishing St. Paul’s Hospital in 1911.
Saint Paul University Iloilo (SPUI) is a premier institution for higher education recognized for excellence in student-centered learning, transformative teaching, challenging academic programs, innovative research, and responsive community service. Their primary aim was to care for the poor and the sick, However, the care of the poor and the sick was not the only apostolic mission of the Sisters of St. Paul; they have also been founded for the purpose of training and educating the young. So it was, with the great desire emboldened by the formative component of their mission, coupled with the pressing need of the hospital for trained competent Catholic nurses, the Sisters under the leadership of Mother Josephine de Jesus opened the School of Nursing in June, 1946. The school was formally declared as a university in 2004.
Throughout the years, St Paul University Iloilo (SPUI) at the national level, a total of 588 takers out of 1,017 examinees (57.82%) passed the Physical Therapist Licensure Exam given by the Board of Physical and Occupational Therapy in Manila and Cebu on February 2018. SPUI has a passing rate of 67.19% with 43 passers out of 64 examinees.
Freshmen
1. Graduate of a High School recognized by the government.
2. Satisfactory marks on the basic subjects in the course applied for.
3. The following credentials to be submitted to the Guidance center upon the application:
a. An accomplished Application Form from the Guidance Center furnished by the applicant.
b. Form 138 (High School card)
c. Certificate of Good Moral Character from the high school principal.
d. Letter of Recommendation from high school adviser, teacher, counselor, or principal.
4. Satisfactory result in the SPU Iloilo Entrance Examination.
5. Satisfactory result in the SPU Iloilo Medical/Dental Examinations. All laboratory tests shall be done at St. Paul’s Hospital, Iloilo City
a. Laboratories (Chest X-Rays, ECG, CBC, Urinalysis, Fecalysis)
b. Dental Examination (University Dentist)
c. Physical Examination (University Clinic)
6. The Nursing Apptitude Test (NAT) is required for Nursing Applicants.
7. Applications who are married or single parents are STRICTLY NOT ALLOWED for enrollment.
Transferees
Transferees may be admitted to the first and second year levels of the University on a case to case basis. They are required the followings:
a. Laboratories (Chest X-Rays, ECG, CBC, Urinalysis, Fecalysis)
b. Dental Examination (University Dentist)
c. Physical Examination (University Clinic)
