The History of Management Development Institute of Singapore

The Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS), founded in 1956, is the oldest non-profit vocational university for lifelong learning in Singapore. MDIS set up it first overseas campus in Tashkent, capital of Uzbekistan, built in 2008 at a cost of US$20 million. It was announced on 28 June 2010 that MDIS would be setting up an S$130 million overseas 30-acre (120,000 m2) campus in Iskandar Malaysia which is expected to start work at the end of 2011. MDIS Malaysia is expected to be five times as big as the MDIS Campus in Singapore. In 2015, MDIS planned to establish a campus in Chennai, India. In 2019, MDIS plans to open another campus in Turkmenistan.

Academic Highlights

The Foundation Program is the first year of the studies and it is offered as a day program which could be completed in one year. The program consists of seven modules for two semesters. The first semester consists of three modules, and the second semester consists of four modules. The Foundation Program provides the students with structured program of studies which helps to improve their English language and communication skills. In addition, it gives a sound knowledge base in business studies, business concepts, encourages the development of a creative attitude, and motivates the participants to understand how the corporations and companies are managed.

Life in Management Development Institute of Singapore

The campus at Sterling boasts of a hostel consisting of 782 air-conditioned rooms, 14 suites, a 500-seater auditorium, and a cafeteria. Known as the MDIS [email protected], the eco-friendly architecture can accommodate 1700 students. There is a Career Assistance Unit for the students with the objective of helping them to land a job before graduation. “Career Hub,” an exclusive career portal is one such career service provided by the institute. To date, more than 1000 registered companies have offered employment and internship opportunities through this portal.
