The History of Wesleyan College

In 1836, Wesleyan College became the first college in the world chartered to grant degrees to women. We take our role as a pioneer in women’s education seriously. Today, we continue to educate women to do the extraordinary in their professions and in service to their communities. At Wesleyan, women are expected to think, to explore, and to dream big. It’s an environment where no student will ever be told that she can’t do something because it is too hard. Wesleyan draws a wonderfully eclectic mix of women – about 700 in all – from across the United States and more than twenty countries, bringing to campus a multitude of backgrounds and ethnicities. Wesleyan students choose to study here because they want to test their limits. The bar is set high because our students demand it. First for Women isn’t just a claim to fame - it’s a philosophy that explains why Wesleyan women continue to make history today.

Academic Highlights

Choose between 3 different degree programs: bachelor of arts, bachelor of fine arts, or bachelor of science in nursing. The bachelor of arts degree is Wesleyan’s traditional, liberal arts degree with many major, minor, & professional program options. The Academic Resource Center, or the ARC, assists students in achieving their desired academic goals. The ARC is useful for individual and group studying, computer & printer use, academic counseling, tutoring, & special topic seminars.  In addition to living and studying with peers from all over the world, you are encouraged to consider a study abroad experience. Join the faculty on planned study-travel courses to places like China, Greece, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, The Netherlands, and South Korea!
