About Program
The aims of the BSc (Hons) - Chemistry program are (i) to provide an advanced understanding of the core principles and topics of Chemistry and to enable students to acquire specialized knowledge and training of selected areas of chemistry by means of specialization, and (ii) to impart knowledge and life skills to students so that they would not only be conversant with their fields but also have the versatility to learn new trades and adapt to a variety of jobs in today’s knowledge-based economy.
The curriculum also emphasizes experimental studies and discusses the interdependence of experimental and theoretical work. In Levels 1 – 3, students in this program are required to read 5 essential practical modules. Each practical module is a 10-week course which comprises 2 hours of lecture and 6 hours of laboratory work each week. In Level 4, student must complete a mandatory year-long honors year research project which provides training in research skills.
The course has been planned to incorporate maximum flexibility. Students can select predominantly from modules which provide a more detailed coverage of the area of focus, or opt for a larger proportion of modules which provide broadening into other chemical disciplines relevant to industry and/or research.
