In terms of ranking, is National University of Singapore a better school as compared to Nanyang Technological University?

  • Gloria Answered May 30, 2019 12:35pm

In terms of academic and employer evaluation rankings, National University of Singapore ranked higher than the Nanyang Technological University. However, in the other four individual rankings, Nanyang Technological University rank is much higher than that of the National University of Singapore, especially in terms of research impact (citation rate). So which is better depends on which aspect is more important to you.

For the exact deadlines pertaining to Cornell University's ED please refer to this link: https://admissions.cornell.edu/apply/application-timelines

Usually, for ED, the deadline is usually on or around 1 November so the the last ACT date you can take for early decision is in October and the last SAT date is in November. Scores from these test dates should arrive in November, just in time for early decision.

I applied for NTU and got offered, but I was also offered a short-term contract-based job. Is it possible to defer and commence the following year?

May 29, 2019 2:40pm 1

  • Gloria Answered May 29, 2019 2:46pm

I don't think the university allows any successful applicants, with the exception of full-time National Servicemen, to defer entry to their programmes. Any offer which is not taken up by the stipulated closing date is deemed to have lapsed and will be offered to candidates on the waiting list.

Does University of Toronto's Master of Management of Innovation programme offer CO-OP opportunities?

August 27, 2019 5:02pm 1

  • Jedediah Answered August 27, 2019 5:09pm

In 2016, capstone projects were replaced by CO-OP so this means that international students are able to get CO-OP study permit and can find a job. What is not so ideal is that there is no pool of companies for students to apply like in Waterloo where you can submit your resume through an online system and secure an interview. Instead, you will have to look for internship opportunities on your own while working part-time. As this is still quite new to the school, CO-OP resources may not be abundant. If you are unable to secure an internship and graduate, you can choose to do capstone project instead.

What is the culture like at University of Toronto?

  • Jedediah Answered August 27, 2019 5:07pm

The culture here is very North American. What is good is that here, you can experience all sorts of culture, how the locals live, their habits etc. The party culture here is also quite strong where people always hold parties, gather to gossip etc. In addition, people here are also quite judgmental towards individual's personality. In generally, I would consider University of Toronto quite friendly.

What are some cons of the Master of Management of Innovation programme at University of Toronto?

August 27, 2019 5:04pm 1

  • Jedediah Answered August 27, 2019 5:06pm

The cons of the programme includes:

1. It is only a one year programme so you can only get a one year work permit. Studying for 16 months gives 3 years of work permit so you may lose out in this sense.

2. The COOP of this programme is relatively new so there are not much compatible companies to match with.

3. The timeline of the programme is quite tight so you don't really have time to digest and absorb what you have learnt although content taught is very valuable. At the same time, content is not very in depth due to the time limit so you cannot go deep into learning finance or big data.

As the environment is too ideal, students may have quite a hard time finding a place where they can focus and study peacefully. Living in such a beautiful place, coupled with regular partying all year round, some students may find it difficult to concentrate on their studies. The result of a recent evaluation of students showed average level of grades and a low proportion of international students.

Both sides of the school faces the sea so it is very scenic, calming, and beautiful. A lot of various activities are easily accessible to students like surfing, fishing, whale watching, beach walking, and the likes.
