History and Development of Dentistry in Singapore

The National University of Singapore (NUS) has been one of the most globally known schools together with the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and the Singapore Management University. These universities managed to climb up the top world university rankings throughout the years.

In the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Ranking for the year 2016 and 2017, NUS emerged at the top for two consecutive years. In the global and international scale, NUS took the 15th spot in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Rankings for the year 2018. Moreover, putting the context on academic excellence and employment standards, NUS ranked 11th across the world and 1st in Asia, continuously strengthening the school’s credibility as a reputable international university.

With such standards, NUS has been producing the best doctors and dentists since 1933 when the NUS Faculty of Dentistry was built. Throughout the years, the faculty has developed itself into a learning field with a wide range of dental courses.

National University of Singapore (NUS)

Singapore Dental Council currently listed NUS as the only university to offer a full-time dental degree program.

Applying for dental courses in NUS

To apply for the NUS’ Dentistry program,applicants must undergo this process through the NUS Office of Admissions (OAM). Take note that NUS has basic requirements of academic merit and standing that applicants must meet.

NUS High School Diploma

- Good major CAP in Chemistry

Diploma from Polytechnic in Singapore

- Polytechnic diplomas accredited for Dentistry

If you meet these qualifications and pre-requisites, NUS may invite you to take a Manual Dexterity Test and undergo an interview. If you make it through the interview, you will be shortlisted and contacted and officially accepted into the program.

Nanyang Polytechnic (NP)

Apart from the NUS’ Bachelor of Dental Surgery program, the Singapore Dental Council (SDC) also recognizes Nanyang Polytechnic’s (NP) 3-year full time program, Diploma in Oral Health Therapy Course.
