Meet Guan Fei. A current student at Kaplan Singapore, who is in his 1st year of Bachelor of Science in Cyber Forensics and Information Security and Computer Science. He recently graduated from Kaplan with an Information Technology Diploma. And he is a local student from Singapore. 


1. What school do you study in? 


2. Do you/others have a nickname for the school? 


3. Why did you choose this school?

It has the course that I want - Bachelor of Science in Cyber Forensics and Information Security and Computer Science.

4. What is a scene that you often see in the school? 


5. What is one thing that you wish you knew before enrollment? 

I got most of the information I needed online and  I dived straight in. 

6. Your school is great, but if you could change one thing, what would it be?

The lecturers. We could do with lecturers of better quality. Also, the school's administration should be improved as well. I graduated from my Kaplan Diploma studies in August and have not heard anything about the collection of my diploma so far. In addition, the school can do better in the sense of preparing students for the corporate world, maybe with some job fairs. 

7.  And if there’s one thing you’d never change? 

The school environment as I like that everywhere I go, it is air conditioned.

8. The unofficial uniform of your school is? 

People wear all sorts of things here. 

9. When you meet a new friend for the first time and you have to describe your school with one word, what would it be? 

Nothing comes to mind. 

10. What is one place in the school that you are proud of? 

Wilkie Edge Campus Level 5 study area. 

11. If you could swap programs for a day, what would it be? 

I would like to try journalism.

12. What is a common myth of your school? 

That it’s easy to pass exams. 

13. If you ever had to stay in school past 9pm, what would it be because? 

I would probably be doing some self study or working on assignments. 

14. What is the strangest thing you’ve ever seen in the school? 

Vain girls always looking into the mirror. 

15. What is your one guilty pleasure you indulge in in school? 

Watching dramas or surfing YouTube.

16. If you were given $5 million dollars to revamp the school, what would you do with it? 

Change all the tables and chairs in school. 

17. In between classes, where can we find you? 

Food court/Fairprice Supermarket/7-Eleven, basically anywhere where I can get food or snacks.

19. In the occasion that the school has to downsize till only ONE food place remains, what will it be? 

Fairprice supermarket.

Level 5 of Wilkie Edge Campus or level 7 of the POMO campus.

Programs & Electives

21. What program are you in? 

Cyber Forensics and Information Security and Computer Science.

22. Is this related to your dream job? 

I’m still venturing, but it is more or less related. 

23. Do you know the actual value of your degree? 

$24K for 20 months.

24. Do you think a degree in your course is cost efficient in terms of the quality of education you are receiving versus what you are paying? 

I haven’t yet started on main modules, only on electives now and I’m concerned about how well recognised my degree will be so I’m not sure if it’s cost efficient. 

25. In your opinion, how much should a degree in your program cost? 

I would leave the price as it is as it’s the average price for private universities.

26. What is the most unforgettable module you have taken? 

William Ku’s class on Information Technology or programming

27. If you could be exempted from any module in your program, what would it be? 

William Ku’s class on Information Technology or programming

28.What advice would you give to future students about module selection and planning? 

Know yourself. If you’re young or if you’re a slow learner, know yourself and pursue your studies full time. If not, you can do well even while doing part time studies. 

29. If you had to choose one, would you advise a Singapore Junior College (JC)  or Polytechnic (poly) student to join your program? 

I think there won’t be a difference between the two groups of students. 

30. In what scenarios will any student be exempted from any modules? 

I took a Information Technology diploma in Kaplan prior so it’s somewhat like a crossover so I had 8 modules deducted. If you’re in a similar situation, you may be exempted from some modules as well. 

31. Theory vs. Practical. In what ratio would you say your program content is? 


32. On a scale of 1 – 10, how employable do you think students from your program are?

35. What is one thing that most people don’t know about your program? 

That any Information Technology (IT) programme will involve a lot of applications and software but you actually learn the hard way of programming instead. 

36. Ideal tutorial class size versus reality?

Ideal: 15-20

Reality: 40-70

37. Given a chance to go on exchange, which country would you choose? 

I think it’s not so much the country but specific companies.

38. Common exam formats include: 

20 Multiple Choice Questions and 3 essay questions.
