Arts And Design May Be The Course For You

Pao P

Are you passionate about art as a whole? Are you interested in noting similarities and dissimilarities between art styles from different historical periods and cultures? Or perhaps, the works of Picasso and Matisse always intrigued you to the point of inspiration?

If you answered yes to many of these questions, then a degree in Arts and Design may just be what you’re looking for.

Art is part of humanity. It is the purest form of expression and output of human emotion, but at the same time, it does not always need words to express these things. It has different kinds of forms and is not always the same for each person. It is fluid and ever-changing. As someone who pursues a degree in Arts and Design, you aim to understand these things and mix them with Design, which is generally not just how it feels like, but how something works as well.

The degree can be classified into two categories, History of Art and Fine Art, with many further specializations in both fields.

History of Art deals with the exploration of different artwork from a variety of different cultures, traditions and time periods. This trains students the analysis of artifacts and art in a much more traditional sense, like paintings in art galleries and famous frescoes and sculptures. History of art students may choose to specialize in a particular region and/or historical period, or may pursue an interest in a particular aspect of art’s relationship to society – perhaps looking at the relationship between art and philosophy, or art and politics, for example.

Fine Arts degrees take ideas into creations. Whilst History of Art degrees focus on analysis of artworks, Fine Arts focus on applying them. Usually fine art students specialize in one or several media, such as painting, sculpture, photography, film, animation, illustration, printmaking or ceramics.
